Our approach
Grax has one purpose: blocking ads, trackers, pop-unders, forced redirects, and related hostile advertising behavior while preserving normal website functionality. Protection runs locally in Chrome through Manifest V3 APIs and resources bundled with the extension.
What stays on your device
Grax stores protection settings, trusted website hostnames you add, custom blocked hostnames you add, short-lived tab pauses, update-awareness metadata, and bounded local diagnostics. Recent rule activity contains rule identifiers, source families, actions, and timestamps—not request URLs or page content.
What Grax does not do
- No sale of user data.
- No advertising profiles or behavioral analytics.
- No automatic upload of browsing history, page text, form values, passwords, or identity documents.
- No remotely hosted executable code.
- No automatic transmission of broken-site reports.
Broken-site reports
A report is created only when you request it. It downloads locally and excludes page paths, query strings, page text, form values, passwords, identity documents, and browsing history.
Permissions
- Active tab
- Runs user-requested controls and diagnostics for the current tab.
- Alarms
- Expires temporary pauses and performs optional update-awareness checks.
- Declarative Net Request
- Applies bundled network rules through Chrome’s native blocking engine.
- Storage
- Saves local settings, trusted sites, custom blocks, and bounded diagnostics.
- Scripting
- Registers and removes the bundled document-start protection runtimes.
- All websites
- Allows the adblocker to perform its single protection purpose on the websites you visit.
Updates and third parties
Optional update-awareness checks compare metadata from official EasyList and EasyPrivacy source endpoints. They do not send browsing history or install remote code. New bundled filters arrive only through a signed extension release.
Retention and deletion
Persistent settings remain until you change them, reset them, or uninstall Grax. Temporary tab state and session diagnostics are bounded and expire. Chrome removes extension-managed local data when the extension is uninstalled.
Limited Use
The use of information received from Chrome and Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Policy changes
Any material change will be published here with a new effective date before the related behavior is released.
